Support of the EMS-Hollaender International Fellow Award:
A Challenge from
Phil Hanawalt
This award, that derives from the vision of the late Alex Hollaender, was
initiated at the EMS meeting in San Diego to recognize outstanding scientists
from countries in which environmental mutagenesis programs are in the developmental
stages. We were pleased to make the first award to Wagida Anwar, who we will
expect to continue to make significant contributions to the field of environmental
mutagenesis in her country (Egypt) and internationally. As we know, the achievements
from individuals such as Wagida, are extraordinary, based upon the very limited
resources available for their programs. Although the award is prestigious
recognition, the sum of $1000 is insufficient to cover even the travel expenses
to attend our annual meeting...
I would like to invite my colleagues who are similarly supportive of Alex
Hollaender’s
vision, to sponsor cash award supplements in turn to the awards for future meetings.
If you are willing to join in this worthy enterprise, please contact William
at William.au@utmb.edu or by phone at 409-772-1545.
Sincerely,
Phil Hanawalt
