The Heritable Mutation and Disease Special Interest Group will meet to discuss issues relating to heritable mutagenesis, the challenges of identifying and characterizing human germ cell mutagens, and the consequences of these mutations to health.
The breakfast agenda will include:
General Business:
Presentations:
-
Megan Slater, University of Minnesota,
Department of Pediatric Epidemiology
and Clinical Research (15 min):
Maternal Exposure to Household Chemicals and Risk of Infant Leukemia
-
Carole Yauk/Francesco Marchetti (1/2 hour):
Presentation of general questions posed to the germ cell community in St. Louis—what we agree and disagree on.
Discussions and debate. Where do we go from here?
-
David DeMarini (1/2 hour):
Discussion on the development of an international committee for the declaration of germ cell mutagens. Why has no chemical or mixture ever been specifically designated as a human germ cell mutagen? Dr. DeMarini will argue that it is because of the lack of a committee that is specifically aimed at making decisions on this topic. Development of such a committee under the WHO-IAEMS may lead to the first declaration that specific agents are germ cell mutagens, using new data and methods.
Please e-mail Carole Yauk or Francesco Marchetti if you’re interested.
