Heritable Mutation and Disease Special Interest Group

Leaders: Steve S. Sommer, MEDomics and Carole Yauk, Health Canada

The Heritable Mutation and Disease Special Interest Group will meet to discuss issues relating to heritable mutagenesis, the challenges of finding human genomic DNA damaging agents, germ-cell and stem-cell mutagens, and the consequences of these mutations to health.

The breakfast agenda will include:

General Business:

  • Nomination and voting for a new SIG co-chair
  • Web content update and discussion
  • The Next 50 Years of Germ Cell Mutagenesis: lead-in to afternoon symposium (Dr. Jack Bishop, NIEHS)

Presentations:

  • 15 min. New Investigator seminar. TBA
  • 15 min. Expanded Simple Tandem Repeat (ESTR) Biology (Yuri Dubrova, Univ. of Leicester)

General Discussion:

  • What does tandem repeat mutation really mean or correlate with? Brainstorming…
  • Could it be useful in a regulatory context?
  • If so, what steps need to be taken to work towards this?
  • What are priority chemicals or exposures?

Note: We are looking for students/new investigators to be rapporteurs for this meeting, with the broad general goal of potentially putting a position paper together on the general discussion. Please e-mail Carole Yauk if you’re interested.
