Governance Overview
EMS is governed by a Council of 22 members including the Editor-in-Chief of the Society
journal, Environmental and Molecular Mutagenesis. Four members are the elected
officers of the Society and serve for their terms of office. These are:
President, President-Elect, Secretary, and Treasurer. The immediate
Past-President and Past Past-President also shall serve on the Council for a one-year
term. Fifteen additional Council members shall be elected for terms of three
years each.
The Executive Board shall have and exercise the
authority of the Council in the management of the Society between meetings of
the Council. The Executive Board shall consist of the President,
President-Elect, Immediate Past-President, Past Past-President, Secretary,
Treasurer and two members of the Council. The two Council members shall be
nominated by the President and elected for a one-year term by a majority of all
members of the Council.
It is the responsibility of the Council to establish
association policy, approve an integrated plan of program activity, raise and
allocate necessary resources and oversee the Society's program of work and
administration. Council reports to the members. Council meets twice during the
annual meeting. The Executive Board meets multiple times during the annual
meeting and again in a mid-year meeting. The Executive Board holds monthly
teleconferences which may involve members of Council, Committees, Task Forces or
other groups as deemed necessary.
