EMS Committees

The Environmental Mutagen Society (EMS) has a number of committees which are populated by EMS Members. Participation at the committee level is a great opportunity to get involved with EMS and engage with the leadership. EMS committees have contributed significantly to the growth of EMS through their oversight and development of new programs.

Becoming involved with a committee is simple. If your are interested in serving on a committee please contact EMS Headquarters or the committee chairperson.

For more information about the individual committees and their activities, visit the links below.

Awards and Honors

The Awards and Honors Committee is responsible for choosing the annual EMS awardees (EMS Award, Alexander Hollaender Award, EMS Service Award, Student and New Investigator Travel Awards, and the Alexander Hollaender Student Travel Award).

Education, Student and New Investigator Affairs

The Education, Student, and New Investigator Affairs Committee develops programming and makes recommendations to promote maximal participation of students and new investigators in EMS activities.

Finance and Resource

The Finance and Resource Committee advises the Treasurer on financial policies and reviews budgetary activities.

Hollaender

The mission of the Alexander Hollaender Committee is to broaden the opportunities in mutagenesis research internationally for scientists and students from countries where such opportunities are historically underrepresented through planning, promoting, and teaching courses on pertinent subjects throughout the world.

Membership Professional Development

Recruitment and retention, the charge of the Membership and Professional Development Committee, is accomplished through innovative programs like the Special Interest Groups to promote interactions between EMS members, and mentoring to facilitate successful career development.

Nominating

The Nominating Committee is responsible for identifying and recruiting candidates to stand for election to President, Secretary, Treasurer, ICEM Board, and EMS council.

Program

The Program Committee plans and sets the program for the upcoming annual meeting.

Public Relations Communications

The Public Relations Committee is the key to EMS communication: we publish the popular Winter and Summer Newsletters describing our activities with abundant photos at each annual meeting and preparing for the next annual meeting.

Publication Policy

The Publication Policy Committee focuses on Policies of the Society's publications, Environmental Molecular Mutagenesis (EMM) and the EMS Newsletter. The Committee provides advice and oversight to the Editor and EMS Executive Board on publication policy issues.
