Platform sessions will be concurrent with Symposia and it is important that
you strictly adhere to the times outlined in the program. Equipment will be
available for Power Point presentations, necessitating that you pre-load your
presentation on to the presentation computer. Files need to be in a PC-compatible
format which allows them to be run on either a PC or a Macintosh computer.
If you will need a slide or overhead projector, please contact the EMS headquarters
(email and phone number below) well in advance of the meeting (by August 27).
Your session chairs will be contacting you about coordinating the audio-visual,
transferring the presentation files, etc. We recommend that you bring your
presentation file pre-loaded on either a zip disk and/or a CD disk (depending
upon the computer capabilities) for transfer to the presentation prior to the
session. As a back-up, several days before the meeting starts, you may also
want to send your file to the session chairs as an e-mail attachment. We have
allotted 12 minutes for each presentation, 2 minutes for questions and 1 minute
to switch between speakers (total, 15 minutes).
It is important that you practice your presentation prior to delivering it
in your session. A general rule of thumb is that you allow one minute per slide.
So we recommend that you limit the number of slides to a maximum of 12—less
than 10 may be preferable—for each presentation. In particular, Power Point
presentations afford the easy opportunity for information overload, and can
detract from the major points to be emphasized. Please keep this in mind when
planning your presentation. An exemplary presentation would include one that
includes at least one introductory slide, and a summary slide stating the key
conclusions.
